Our Aim
Nurturing love, laughter & friendship in the last chapter of life for our Kensington Residents
Our Purpose
Compassionate Kensington 5068 is a citizen-led community movement that works to change the way we think about the last chapter of life. We aim to strengthen the capacity of the people in Kensington to care for each other in times of serious illness, dying, death, grief and caregiving.
We passionately believe that love, laughter and friendship should be central to a person’s life until the very end.
Our Story
Kensington Residents Association kindly awarded a “Care for Kensington grant” in 2024 to a local couple living in Kensington who both work in palliative care. They hosted two Compassionate Community Conversations workshops to gauge interest and co-design activities for Compassionate Kensington 5068. The results of these Compassionate Community Conversations can be downloaded HERE <insert link to report>. The Kensington Resident Association committee were so passionate about this project that its evolved as an ongoing activity within KRA and a new website dedicated to Compassionate Kensington 5068 activities was created in June 2025.

What are Compassionate Communities?
Compassionate communities are communities where everybody recognises that we all have a role to play in supporting each other in times of loss, ageing, dying and grief. Everyone is ready, willing and confident to have respectful discussions to support each other in emotional and practical ways.
Compassionate Communities are a community that recognises that all-natural cycles of sickness & health, birth & death, and love & loss occur every day within the orbits of its institutions and regular activities. Its residents recognise that care for one another at times of crisis and loss is not simply a task solely for health and social services but is everyone’s business.
Compassionate Communities are a core part of the public health approaches to palliative care model. Compassionate Communities publicly encourage, facilitate, support and celebrate care for one another during life’s most testing moments and experiences, especially those pretraining to serious illness, dying death and grief.
