These big green birds are popular pets in South Australia, but are native to South Asia and could become a highly invasive species in the Australian bush if left unchecked. Wild sightings have been reported in Adelaide’s suburbs – particularly southern suburbs.

Green Adelaide is seeking help from Adelaide residents. If you see Alexandrine parakeets in the wild, please record the date, location, number of birds and colour (green usually, sometimes blue and yellow) and report to the National Pest Alert Hotline 1800 084 881. When a sighting is reported, Green Adelaide works with bird experts and project partners to try and find the birds and return them to captivity.
