Sunday 22 May: 156 Years of Reimagining

This event is presented by Mary MacKillop’s Josephites.

Peter Cahalan, inaugural SA History Trust CEO, will explore the enduring legacy of this religious order founded in mid-nineteenth century South Australia.  Mr Cahalan’s presentation “156 Years of Reimagining” is inspired by the 2022 SA History Festival theme and will describe how the order established itself from the outset as uniquely flexible and ready to adapt to changing circumstances.  It is a story of generations of amazing women reimagining roles for themselves as society changed around them, with lessons for us all today.

Following Mr Cahalan’s presentation Mary MacKillop Museum Director, Sister Mary Ryan rsj, will lead a guided tour of the Museum which showcases how the ‘Joeys’ creatively reimagined themselves and adapted to new challenges.
