Three pieces of Kensington’s built heritage in Bridge and Hill Streets, all Representative Buildings, are set to be auctioned off on Saturday 12th September.
The current state of the buildings and generous land size may attract buyers seeking to clear the blocks, however demolition of Representative Buildings within the Kensington 1 Historic Area Overlay (NPSP5) is unlikely to be approved. Development applications for renovation and/or alteration will also be subject to careful scrutiny to ensure compliance with heritage protection policies. No.6 Bridge St directly abuts a Local Heritage Place (No.8 Bridge St), therefore the Heritage Adjacency Overlay applies as well.
These layers of heritage protection are designed to ensure the integrity and character of Kensington is not compromised through uncontrolled demolition and unsympathetic new development.
